Megan Mondays: Passing the Torch

megan-mondays2I have always said I would know when it was time to leave CASA.  I’ve determined that the time is now. After fifteen inspiring, challenging and meaningful years at the helm of CASA, it is time for me to move on.  It was a difficult decision to make because I LOVE CASA.  I love the mission and all the people who are committed to our community’s most vulnerable children.

And, it is difficult to leave because the work is not finished. There are still hundreds of children in Lane County that are caught in the bureaucratic system we call child protective services. They do not have the powerful voice of a Court Appointed Special Advocate. The burden of advocating for these children continues to weigh heavily on my shoulders and my heart.

As much as I am fully engaged in the work of CASA, I know that it is time for someone else to lead this amazing organization.  I am truly excited to see CASA’s next chapter unfold.  I feel confident that I’ve done my part and led as far as my heart and soul will take me.  I am confident that the dedicated staff, volunteers, donors and board will keep pushing forward until EVERY child that needs a CASA volunteer has one.

My time at the helm of CASA has afforded me the unique opportunity to see how systems work, get tangled up, or stumble. Over the years, there has been significant effort to poke holes in the silos that surround government, service providers and community.  My belief is that if we can break down those silos, align our efforts, and resources, and address duplication we will be able to move the needle on issues that we care most about.  While my exact role is still taking shape, I feel passionately that I MUST try to fix the system.  I feel that if I do not step up and try to change things, I will regret it.  One of the things I am most passionate about is living a life without regret.

The CASA Board of Directors leapt into action upon hearing of my desire to move on to the next chapter of my professional life. The Board has developed a plan to search for and find my replacement.  It is hoped that my successor will be in place during the summer so that I may help her or him learn the ropes before moving onto my new role in the fall.  You can help us during this time of transition by letting qualified, passionate individuals know that the position is open so that they may submit their applications.  For more information, click here.
